Sweet Southern Sandstone - Angela Payne

Sweet Southern Sandstone - Angela Payne
December 14, 2014 -  Angela Payne

October & November were the months of sandstone for me. Sandstone is hands down my favorite type of rock, although it isn’t the rock I climb on most often. I grew up climbing on sandstone, and maybe that’s part of the reason I love it so much. The style of climbing that sandstone creates does not always play to my strengths, and sometimes quite the opposite. But something about it is just appealing to me – the aesthetics, the texture, the incredible fun it almost always seems to lead to. The sandstone that I...

My Last ABS Season - Zoe Steinberg

My Last ABS Season - Zoe Steinberg
December 08, 2014 -  Zoe Steinberg

There have definitely been times where I’ve neglected to update this as much as I should, but I think the time span of when I last posted until now definitely takes the prize. It has been a hugely busy fall, being both my first semester of college and my last season competing in youth bouldering comps, and I have been trying to make the most out of both of these opportunities. So far, everything has been working out well, so I’ll try to keep this short and summarize everything.

Boulders in Gatineau - Hans Montenegro

Boulders in Gatineau - Hans Montenegro
December 02, 2014 -

This post shows the boulders in Gatineau (Luskville, bloc du penguin and Home cliff). You can see a drawn topo made by a friend of mine (Jonathan Audy). He is always helping to develop climbing in Quebec. This topo is for the Luskville bouldering. Luskville (35 minutes from Hull): You can see many interesting problems and I believe that there are some potential boulders for developing too. This is a nice place; the approaching pad is ok for the first section. After that, you have to walk up the mountain. It is not easy with more...

The Nightmare Before Sendmas (Hopefully!!!) - Erica Carlson

The Nightmare Before Sendmas (Hopefully!!!) - Erica Carlson
November 27, 2014 -  Erica Carlson

About a week ago, we had the first Alberta Climbing Association (ACA) comp of the year and it was hosted by my home gym, Calgary Climbing Centre. These comps are always a blast and are very well organized. Simon, the manager of the south location, has been hosting comps for 10+ years and has ironed out pretty much all the kinks you can have in a competition. This competition consistently runs on time, which is testimony to the level of organization they have. Unfortunately, this is the first time in over 6 years that I was not...

A Lesson from the Red - Aicacia Young

A Lesson from the Red - Aicacia Young
November 27, 2014 -  Aicacia Young

One fine October day, I received a text from a friend saying, “Hey, anyone want to go to the Red with me in two weeks"? Um, seriously? Ask me a real question. OF COURSE I WANT TO GO TO THE RED! It’s been like 3 years since I touched that heavenly sandstone! I was so giddy I could hardly stand it, but two weeks wasn’t much time to prepare for the Red, or any worthy climbing destination for that matter. It had just started cooling off in Austin to the point that I didn’t feel like...

The Mite of the Cave, Working on the Project - Ferran Guerrero Hervas

The Mite of the Cave, Working on the Project - Ferran Guerrero Hervas

After a section to write my chronicles time, I'm back here, not in great shape, my finger no longer er will return as the same, but at least no pain. I can again feel the mountains, to have projects in the walls and new adventures to climb, and that fills me with happiness, back in full to the vertical. Two years ago I found strolling with the family this great fissure, a few days with Quo and we put the meeting and we started working on it, many loose flagstone, sandstone typical here a lot of...
