It finally happened! I'm very sad to say that I have officially aged out of youth competitions! After seven years of competing, this weekend marked my final youth nationals. I feel sad to be leaving the junior series, but very thankful to have been a part of so many amazing experiences. The comps, people, and places I have been able to encounter as a youth climber have truly been life changing. Despite finishing well and having fun with friends, this last competition can only be described as bittersweet.
Experiencing progression all over again! Last week, Kelly and I packed our bags and made the trek from Holland to Switzerland. During our time in Magic Wood, I sent 3 of the most difficult boulders I have climbed in over 5 years and was witness to Kelly's progression as a rock climber, watching her tick off her first 7A.
Father’s Day is the hardest established route in Donner Summit and one of the hardest traditional routes in the country. The route was established by Tom Herbert in the late nineties using trad gear for the bottom half and bolts for the upper half. This style of climbing the route is the most popular and the first few repeats were in this style. Five Ten athlete Nico Favresse became the first person to climb the route solely on trad gear and since then very few people have been able to complete the route only using natural protection. ...
Like many others out there we are the working bees in the climbing/life community. There are plenty of us who have to work to climb, who are super talented climbers finding the difficult balance of working, life, training and climbing.
