"Wanted to give you an update from Wyoming. Last night was the 307 Bouldering Championship Competition here in Laramie, Wyoming. The 307 Comp. series is a state wide series that runs annually across Wyoming and is the only state wide bouldering series in the country. The series varies in its location for the Championships from year to year and we were lucky to get it here this year. Despite some poor driving weather that kept some folks from coming to town we had a good showing. The competition had problems from recreational to open and two different start times for male and female...
News from the Wild West. Davin Bagdonas reports from Laramie on the 307 Comp!
Knowing this was the Championships I assembled a setting crew and comp. crew with the idea of putting on a solid showing for Laramie. Hoping to get a bigger competition feeling from our usual Friday Night Bouldering Series we spent some extra time tuning the problems and getting ready for anyone who might show up. After many years of setting competitions I've learned that you have to have a problem for the person who might be at their first competition and a problem for the VHARD, flashing double digit wonder kid. We set with that idea in mind. The results were solid if not a bit stiff. After a long winter trapped like animals inside, training hard, we managed to have an old school Laramie shutdown. The kind we used to set when the 307 Competition series was a young idea. The competitors gave us great feed back, saying that the problems were excellent and hard. Progression from problem to problem was a step up each time. I do have to say that it was one of the better set completions we have put up in Laramie. Very well balanced and unclimbed problems were left on the wall!
We had awesome support too, from Five Ten®, Clif Bar, Organic Bouldering Mats, and the local shops Cross Country Connection, and Big Hoss. Kevin our Northwest Rep. showed up in the black Five Ten van and unloaded a heap of demo shoes, examples, and prizes. People were excited to try Dragons, Projects, and Anasazi Verde on the various problems. Our wall here in Laramie is highly varied from slabs to a horizontal cave and gave a great idea of how well Five Ten shoes work. A great competition will soon be followed by some great sends outside I hope. Motivation is high in Laramie!"
Thank you always for your support!
