Brian Bittner talks about Heart of Steel

February 03, 2010 -  Brian Bittner

"The Heart of Steel comp was an exciting event held at Boston Rock Gym on Jan. 30th. The comp certainly represented two common themes from what I can see, high attendance and an avant-garde nature. With a competitor attendance of 162 climbers, a video premier of Taylor De Lanch's Sick over flowing out the doors and an unprecedented free rotating "diamond" hanging from the wall to be climbed on during finals the comp was nothing short of radical. Sporting a number of the nations top climbers, from Zeb Engberg to Michael Bautista to Rob D'Anastasio I chose to compete in the advanced category. I was less than 1% from the top score, but, was bumped up to Open, alas no prize. With a registration fee of $45 I may just spectate next year, Vaysa Vorotnikov certainty put on a show and I have no doubt that will be the case for years to come."
