Cerre Francis shares her summer adventures in climbing

September 15, 2009 -  Cerre Francis

"Climbing this summer has been great, instead of anxiously waiting for bouldering season, I have found a new appreciation for sport climbing. As much as I love sending a route, some days I am just as stoked that I have taken a whipper! Usually the thought of falling holds me back more than an actual move.  Sport climbing for me is a lot more mental than bouldering. Of course I get nervous high on a boulder problem, but while on a route I find my mind often holds me back. Instead of just climbing I am thinking about how far I will fall or if its going to be a hard clip. Lately though, I have been getting over the mind game and letting my body climb without hesitation.  With that said, now that the weather is cooling I am so happy to get back to my projects in Little Cottonwood. I am also going to HorseShoe Creek Canyon in November, and can't wait to see friends and climb on the tall sandstone boulders, but I have to wonder, 'is the sport climbing there just as good as the bouldering?'"
