It's officially summer. And that means Europe season for BASE jumpers. Tons of legal cliffs to fly our wing suits off of to our hearts content. But first, we must train.
My New Wingsuit! - Jill Kuzman
We all know that BASE jumping is a death defying sport. But how exactly do we defy death? We skydive our butts off. I know, you're sitting there saying to yourself, "Skydiving IS death defying. How is that training?". You're right, it is. But on the danger scale, it pales in comparison to BASE jumping. Mostly because it is much higher (more time to fix problems when they occur); and secondly because there is nothing to hit, no cliff wall, no antenna guy wire lines, no trees; just a big open air space. This year I got a new wing suit. The Squirrel Suit Swift, to be exact. This is an intermediate sized wing suit that just came on the market late last year. After 2 years jumping my smaller wing suit, I decided I was ready for an upgrade. After 20 jumps on this suit, I am hooked. It is stable, fast, and agile. I cannot wait to get back in the sky in a few days and jump it more. I've been focusing on learning all of the flight characteristics that this suit has. Learning the full power band of its flight; from stalling it to flying it at max speed. Learning how to do different acrobatics; flips, barrel rolls, carving turns. All in hopes of returning from my summer vacation with amazing stories, a world of experience and all my bones in the same shape they were in when I started.
