Lots of firsts, a few checks off the bucket list, and too many adventures to count. Here's my Top 6 of 2013!
2013 Was an Awesome Year - Kim Becker
This year was a rowdy year of competition. The Wind River Festival started the season off with a bang in March, which was quickly followed in April by the Northwest Creeking Competition, and in May the Clackamas River Festival and the Little White Salmon Race. I am proud to have won the Wind River Race for the fourth year in a row, the Northwest Creeking Competition for the fifth year in a row (EF Lewis and Canyon Creek Races), and checked the Little White Salmon Race off my bucket list. Here's to fun events, adventures with new friends, and the lovely ladies and gents' of the Northwest!

2. Selway River Self-Support:
There's something special about hanging out in the wilderness with strangers, and leaving the woods as one big happy family. This year I was fortunate enough to join the lovely Wheat/Waidelich clan out of Seattle on a self-support trip down the Selway River. A designated wild and scenic river in the Selway-Bitteroot Idaho Wilderness, you're lucky to even draw a permit for this beautiful river. Trip of a lifetime!

3. New Adventures:
My angry shoulder kept me off the river more than I would have liked in 2013, however, it gave me the opportunity to adventure about and work on my shred-lingo. A trip to Whistler was a summer highlight, as was some proper heckling about the woods.

4. Shoulder Rehab:
It's been twelve weeks since surgery, and I am officially out of my sling. I'm on the move, and slowly making the transition back to FUN. I'm can now ride my bike three times around the block, drive my own car (manual), bear weight through my shoulder, hold a plank (albeit only 15 seconds), ALMOST put my hair up on my own, hold a paddle, and walk/jog the local trails. I'm making progress everyday, and am thankful for the new perspective on injury and recovery. Here's to learning better body awareness, and mental strength. Special thanks to my awesome Physical Therapist!

5. New Boats:
While the Recon has been out for quite some time, I'm still in LOVE. Because of the Recon and it's awesome booftastic power, I have re-gained the confidence to run the gnar, and am inspired to go big. Not to mention, the recent release of the Mobius - I can't wait to do some proper play boating! Going on my 7th season paddling for Wave Sport, I am proud to say that each and every boat produced by Wave Sport is the cream of the crop, tested and re-tested until it is perfect.

This year, I was fortunate to work both with Kelsey Thompson of Lee Visual and Nate Herbeck of Sheer Madness Productions on some fun paddling videos. Check them out!
2014 is shaping up to be another great year! I've submitted my application to the 2014 Whitewater Grand Prix, and have my fingers crossed for another Idaho self-support trip in the spring, and a Clendenning self-support in the fall. Throw in a few biking trips, and a trip abroad, and BAM... 2014's going to be a good one!
Special thanks to my sponsors for all of the love and support throughout the years!
