Hyalite Canyon is an ice and mix climbing mecca. It has many super long multi-pitch ice routes. It has really steep mixed climbs, like the radical Winter Dance. Also, it has great alpine routes. Hyalite is a place packed with a wide variety of climbing adventure.
The North American Ice World Championship took place in downtown Bozeman, lots of great spectators made the atmosphere lively. The difficulty competition was super fun. It consisted of two qualifying routes and one final round. These competitions were done on a man-made structure, about 80 feet tall with very steep angles and a final roof section.
The speed climbing event was a side by side single elimination format. This was performed on a straight vertical panel with a slight overhang.
It was a great time at the festival. It is really cool to see the progression of the sport. The UIAA is pushing for ice climbing to be a winter Olympic Event.
