It has been a very busy, ever changing year. It started back in July, after a couple great trips to Maple and the International Climbers’ Festival in Lander. We always take it easy during the Festival because it is more of a re for us, plus it is usually very busy and hot.
Big Changes.. For the Better - Brian Dunnohew
After the fest I got excited to start some projects at the Iris and the surrounding areas. Since I spent most of the year in climbing longer “fitness” route in Sinks, I needed to get some power. Luckily my friend had built a nice Moonboard at his house and we started working on our power. The Moonboard session were always a humbling experience, but were getting better.
I just started feeling better and I my girlfriend and I moved to Colorado so she can start vet school. This was my third time moving to Colorado and I was kind of dragging my feet. I was happy to leave Rock Springs, but was going to miss my job and mainly climbing on limestone around Lander. So my power training got extended to meet the requirements of all the bouldering the Front Range has to offer. I still get my sport climbing fix at Clear Creek and Poudre Canyon. It has been a culture shock going from steep limestone to techy granite and bouldering. It’s good to leave the comfort zone and face your weaknesses. I still go back and climb in Lander when I can but, I am psyched and ready to explore what Colorado has to offer!
