Summer has (finally) faded into fall here in the Midwest.  With the change of season comes a transition from deep water soloing to sport climbing, and eventually bouldering.  Despite the sometimes oppressive heat, summer is one of the best seasons for climbing in Southern Illinois thanks to the top notch deep water soloing at Kinkaid Lake.  The rock at the lake is steep, overhung and highly featured sandstone.  The texture is perfect for hot weather and wet shoes.  Did I mention the climbing is steep?  There is no better way to beat the Midwest heat.
