At the moment I am climbing the Arrowhead and the Blackwing. So I thought it would be a good idea to compare the both shoe models and find out their strengths and weaknesses.

Concerning the Arrowhead, this shoe is really strong if it comes to slabs and vertical climbing. It holds perfectly on slopey footholds and small crimps. In that style of climbing, the only sections I had problems with where those with tiny pockets to step in. In overhanging routes and when it comes to technical heal hooks, in my opinion the Arrowhead reaches its limits even though I could do a lot of hooks also with this shoe.

Nevertheless, in this part of climbing, I clearly prefer the Blackwing. With its downturn you can pull your footholds nicely and get a good pressure on your feet. Small pockets, as well as all of the heal and toe hooks that I was trying and also small crimps in vertical routes where no problem. Just on slopers and all kinds of friction climbing, I rather tend to the Arrowhead. It just has much less down turn, so that the unbeatable Stealth rubber can bring all of its quality onto the rock.

This is my impression of the both shoe models. Together, they bring all the values that I need at least for route climbing. Let’s see what autumn can contribute to my notion and what I can endorse when bouldering season starts again. I hope this evaluation helps a little bit in the big question of which climbing shoe to take for which climb.

Bye for now and see you at some crag!
