Finally leaving for Mallorca, Spain today! After 5 months of planning and preparation this trip has finally become a reality. I ordered the guide book more then two months ago now and have been pouring over it ever since. I found more then enough climbing to keep us busy for the month. Not only is Mallorca a hot spot for deep water soloing but the amount of world class sport climbing took me by surprise. Alaro's tufa encrusted limestone walls immediately struck my intrest. There you can find some of the best tufa lines in the world. They offer an amazing style of climbing that just can't be passed up. There are also plenty of giant limestone caves for more overhung climbing on big holds. I hope to find in these caves routes where I feel more at home, and fit my climbing style which has been influenced by the Red River Gorge. I also discovered several fully bolted mutli-pitch lines that I was inspired by. Mutli-pitch climbing is a new adventure for me and I've been doing my best to prepare at the gym in Ann Arbor. This trip for me is not only an amazing opportunity to test and build my strength but also to add to my climbing education and experience.

Watching videos of climbing in Mallorca is one of the things that inspired the beginning of my climbing career almost 5 years ago now. One of my main objectives is Loskot and the Two Smoking Barrels a route I first saw in Dosage Volume II. I practically have to sequence memorized from watching so many videos. The route is a 40m deep water solo climb with an all-points off dyno at about 30m. It's truly a unique and amazing climb. I hope to post video's and pictures of it later this month.

Taking a trip like this is proof that dreams really do come true. When we first started talking about this trip, our orignal idea was to apply for a grant to make it actually happen. A month later however, we were not chosen for the grant. We talked about what would happen next and we all came to the same conclusion. We weren't going to let that stop us.

We finally finished packing last night (for the third time) and managed to fit a months worth of climbing gear, clothes and necessities into four bags which luckily was under the 50lbs weight restriction. Now all that separates us for Mallorca is one very long day of travel. Wish me luck!
