The past two weeks me and my family were constantly on the road and racing of course. After chilling and training at the Garda Lake in Italy for four days we headed for the first round of the European downhill cup in Leogang, Austria.
A well known track on the World Cup circuit, which also hosted World Championships in 2012 was a bit of a new challenge for me. I started to love the track as soon as I started riding. It was so fast, with many jumps...what is what I really like. We were practicing in dry conditions and just when I was waiting at the start for my seeding run the storm came in. It started to rain and it was really windy, so I had some troubles on the jumps. With the competition growing this year I finished my seeding run 13th among 25 riders. On Sunday the conditions on the track were just perfect. I was riding 12 seconds faster in my final run and finished 12th. The winner of the race was Floriane Pugin. I was satisfied with my result, as it was only the first round of the series, but I set my goals higher. My next stop at Leogang will be for the World cup finals and I can't wait to get back on that super fast track.
After Leogang my team (me and my mom) headed to the next round of the IXS European Cup in Spizak, CZ. The weather gods were probably playing with us so the conditions on the track were getting different everyday. The track is very special; tight, flat and slippery corners with rocks and rock gardens form top to bottom. Just before my seeding run it started to rain heavily, however I managed to finish 4th, which was so rad!! I never knew I was good in muddy conditions. My goal for the finals was to at least keep my 4th spot or try to get on the podium. The track had almost dried out, but there were still some slippery sections. I did to many mistakes in my final run and finished 5th. With three girls in one second the battle for 3rd place was tough. However, I'm happy with the result, as it's my best result in the European cup so far and I missed the podium only for a mere second. I'm also currently sitting on the 6th spot in the overall rankings in the European Cup. Congrats to all the girls and my fellow racer and friend Zarja Cernilogar for taking the win.
