I've always been better at ropes and speed than bouldering. I've been to 3 sport and speed nationals but this was my first bouldering nationals. What a great experience! It was held in Colorado Springs in the civic auditorium where they built a wall just for the nationals.
The problems they set were the best bouldering problems I have ever climbed. They incorporated a lot of slabs (my favorite), volumes, overhangs and other creative problems. (I first learned to climb in Yosemite so I learned to climb slab when I was young.) They even had one route that went up one side then down the other with the finish hold just above the ground. My brother Ethan did a plank to reach the last hold. My team, Zero Gravity, has a lot of strong climbers and we finished 2nd in the nation. I made to finals and finished 8th overall. I was hoping to do better but I'm happy just to have been a part of this great experience with other amazing climbers and enthusiastic fans.
