Demshitz did the Grand Canyon - Craig Kleckner

March 05, 2013 -  Craig Kleckner

Well Demshitz just finished up a cold trip down the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River.  It was so cold the icicles were forming on you as you paddled down river.

The trip started weeks before our actual put-in date of January 8th, because this was a kayak supported trip we had to carry all of our personal gear in our kayaks for the entire fourteen days.  This was my first kayak supported trip of this sort of length, so I ran into a whole new set of hurdles like how much food, beer, clothes, and even toilet paper, yes, you must pack everything out.  Well with all our preparations in order we were ready for the river on the 8th, the first three days went by in true Grand Canyon fashion but the next four days were the coldest days on record in the last twenty five years.  Well in true Demshitz fashion we still had the best time possible, we made bigger fires, drank more whiskey, and had to thaw our gear in the river just to be able to put it on.  After the cold weather broke we were able to soak up some sun and relax a little as we finished the trip.
