I am currently watching weather and road conditions for South Pass, which sits around 9000’ and is always snowy and windy. South Pass sits between me and a good winter climbing destination; Sinks Canyon. I am hoping to make at least on more trip to Lander before the end of the year to squeeze out a couple more routes. No pressure though, we still have 5 more months of climbing at Sinks before it gets too warm and the annual rattlesnake migration begins. Then its off to one of the many summer/fall crags that surround Lander.
It may sound like I am obsessed with climbing in Lander, that’s because I am! So much year around climbing there. I had intentions climbing in many places this last year, but didn't make it out of Wyoming. I wanted to visit or revisit places like Maple, St. George, American Fork, LCC, Joe’s Valley, Mt. Evans, Ten Sleep, Hoop, and Shelf Road. I never made it to any of these. I was able to climb 3 times in Clear Creek Canyon with my good friend Fritz and only 4 hours in American Fork. The rest of this time was spent around Lander. It was a great time climbing with old friends, making new ones, finishing off projects, starting another and I even got to bolt a couple routes. Had the chance to visit many amazing crags and climb with inspiring people. Maybe make it to more places next year, we’ll see.
