I found a new favorite local climbing spot in the San Francisco Bay Area - Mortar Rock. Indian Rock is more popular, but Mortar Rock is worth checking out.

It’s always fun to find cool local places to climb. A couple weekends ago, my climbing buddy Nick Bradley, introduced me to Mortar Rock. It’s just up the hill from Indian Rock in Berkeley.  Indian Rock has lots of high balls but Mortar Rock is not as scary. I sent 2 V4s, 2 V5s and a V6 called Black Plague. Black Plague ends with 2 reachy “cheese grater” holds.  They really hurt!  Now I’m projecting a V7 variation of the classic, Nat’s Traverse.  Mortar Rock has a great variety of problems and is easy to get to. I now have a local favorite!

November 19th I’m heading to Chile to climb speed and sport at the Pam American Youth Climbing Championships. I’m sure I’ll have some good stories when I get back!
