Stonelands VCS Review - Jessa Goebel

Stonelands VCS Review - Jessa Goebel

Don't know how, but the designers at Five Ten did it again. The ultimate blend of comfort and performance has been created and is the Stonelands series. New for spring 2013 the Stonelands series comes in a lined leather slipper (brown), a synthetic Cowdura lace up (white), and a lined leather velcro (red) version. Built on an entirely new last called the 'Firsten Last', the fit allows the toes to lay flat or slightly curled. The rubber is stiff to keep the shoe from getting soft, in turn allowing ultimate comfort without sacrificing performance.

Over the last season I have gotten the opportunity to test the Stonelands VCS. With red leather uppers and black terry cloth like lining this shoe has snug out of the box comfort. As their first test I took them out to Bridge Buttress at the New River Gorge and proceeded to climb on my rope solo circuit. Without ever taking the shoes off I comfortably climbed 8 pitches of cracks ranging from 5.9 to 5.11+. After the eighth pitch my feet felt like they had only been in the shoes for one pitch. As for the performance, they excelled in foot jams, edging, and smearing. The Stonelands certainly have a special place in my climbing backpack!
