I just competed in the first comp of the new ABS season. It was held at my home gym, Stone Moves! Once again, Stone Moves put on an awesome comp. Great routes, psyched  volunteers and superb music, just as always. That guy John Muse sure knows how to host a comp. My coach, Jon Perz, texted me the wrong time, so I was a bit late, but other than that everything ran smoothly. A bunch of Team Texas kids came down to compete, which was cool. I usually don't see those guys until divisionals rolls around.

Once I got warmed up, thirty minutes after the comp already started, (thanks coach), I started to get on the hard problems. One of these problems was one of the coolest gym routes I have ever done. At first I thought it was kind of awkward, but that was just me. After I figured out the right beta, everything flowed together nicely. This wonderful creation was set by John Muse. John Muse, Tom Carter and Phillip Symons also set a wicked slab climb. It involved carefully moving across a volume foot, pulling on an arête and pressing in a chimney. That's a lot of coolness for one problem! I thought to myself, "Truly, there can't be anymore awesome climbs at this comp." Oh yeah? In the roof Tom Carter set a problem that went through the biggest jug you will ever grab in your life, just short of a "no hands" that felt really bad, followed by a "bat-hang". That is quite a lot of awesomeness at one comp, I think.

This was my six year old sister's first comp. She was psyched to start competing but got scared of the whole falling thing. It is awesome to see her do body position stuff and shake out, though. My little brother also competed. A family of climbers! Cici, my sister, ended up taking 10th, Max, my brother, took 3rd, and I took 1st! Go family!
