One very early, very chilly desert morning- actually, this was the second consecutive morning we tried this, so a 3:30 AM wake up call x2- some friends and I found ourselves in the middle of the flat, dusty, desert watching the moon and the stars disappear and the sun gradually start to shed it's light over the golden landscape. A little windy considering most balloons won't leave the ground if there is the slightest breath of wind- but our balloon pilot is a cowboy and was determined to get us off the ground. Hence the scary part. But soon we were floating gracefully around watching Neil hang under the balloon on olympic rings doing muscle-ups. Why? Good question- but the basket was full of crossfit affectionados and lots of cameras filming our muscular friend do his crossfit workout thing 4000 feet off the ground, wearing a parachute. Me, I just jumped out like a loser with my wingsuit. Just kidding. It was amazing, like always. And to top things off, instead of wandering around in sagebrush for miles trying to get back to our base (like usual, because hey, balloons drift) a heli came and whisked us back. I could get used to this!
