Adidas Rockstars sponsored by Five Ten ®

This upcoming weekend the second edition of the adidas Rockstar event will take place at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany! Right away from qualification on Friday to semifinals and final on Saturday the strongest Boulder athletes are pushing their limits accompanied by rock rhythms and the best Beatboxers who dare to take over the mic. The Beat, the rhythm and the music will drive the athletes to outstanding performance and will bring the best out of them. And of course, the live music brings us a the show and the entertainment!

Bouldering is all about the climbers, their talent and strength - only supported by perfect fitting shoes with highly sticky rubber with the best possible friction. This fact as well as the point, that some of our best athletes such as Sasha diGiulian, Melissa LaNeve, Carlo Traversi and Gabriele Moroni are competing at the event, has led us to sponsor the adidas Rockstar event.

Bouldering meets music – the adidas Rockstar event meets Five Ten® The Brand of the brave™

Let the bravest moves win! If you have the opportunity just come by and check out the spectacle by yourself at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart.

If this is not possible - stay tuned! We will keep you in the loop, check out the first pictures of the wall construction. Further we will inform you about our Five Ten Set Up at the event arena and our competing athletes in the next days. You will also find a Live Stream of the competition on Saturday at this place - the final will be held from 19.30 pm (German time) onwards.

Route setters look forward to new Rockstars boulder wall

When seventy top athletes line up for the adidas ROCKSTARS qualification in the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart next week, they will be facing a virgin competition wall, which has never been climbed before. The two nine meter wide boulder walls of Italian manufacturer Sintroc have been built specifically for the competition, just like the super boulder, which was created for the inaugural event last year. Thus none of the athletes have an advantage in terms of experience.

Set-up of the mobile climbing wall started already this morning (www.facebook.com/adidasrockstars); combinded with the stage it will extend across the entire arena. "Together with route setters, experts and athletes we tried to design the wall as ideal as possible for every competitor", says Axel Burkhardt of adidas Global Sports Marketing.

From Monday onwards the international route setter team consisting of Reini Fichtinger (AUT), Matthias Woitzuck (AUT), Laurant Laporte (FRA) and Chris Danielson (USA) puzzle out a total of 38 boulder problems for the pro competition and the GORE-TEX Be a Rockstar amateur contest.

„The new wall is really inspiring“, raves Laurant Laporte, who has over 20 years of route setting experience under his belt. "It differs from ordinary boulder walls and I think its shape embraces the sport of bouldering. I like the flat tops and I am really looking forward set routes on this wall."

Reinhard Fichtinger, better known as "Reini", leads the team as chief route setter. The 37-year-old started climbing over 20 years ago and was leading the Austrian competition ranking for a long time together with Kilian Fischhuber. Today he is an instructor for Austrian route setters. For the second edition of adidas ROCKSTARS Reini got another top route setter on board: Chris Danielson, the leading route setter for the IFSC Boulder and Lead World Cups in North America.  Chris takes both an analytical and artistic approach to route setting, looking to always better understand climbing mechanics and build inspiring sequences.

The quality of the routes is vital for a good competition. After all, adidas ROCKSTARS wants to demonstrate the skills of the international boulder elite. At the same time the route setters try to live up to the interests of spectators and the media. That asks for instinct feel. Boulders have to be set in a fair way with equal opportunities for all athletes. At the same time they should severely test the skills of the competitor: flexibility, strength, endurance, creativity, orientation. In an ideal case only one athlete masters the most difficult problem. But if the boulders are too tough, it could backfire. This is when many years of competition and route setting experience come into play - it also helps to deal with the pressure.
