Puebla Mexico was the host of the 2012 Pan American Continental Championships. I was most honored to attend the Pan Am Champs after taking the win last year in Chia, Columbia. I raced on my trusty Orange 224 with a newly rebuilt Marzocchi 888 by Factory Ronnie. I was able to check out my new Five Ten Maltese Falcon clip shoes and boy were they smokin’ hot. I was immediately comfortable in the shoes and comfortable clipping in. The competition was smaller than last year, however there were some fast, determined girls who were going for that Campeon title. Lorena, who came in second, gave me a good “run for my money” (no money is awarded at this race), but I knew what I had to do and charged the course, nailing all my lines. When I crossed the finish line I could hear the announcer speaking so fast in Spanish I definitely could not understand what he was saying, so I patiently waited for Lorena to come down to find out the final result. When Lorena crossed the finish line there was so much cheering for her that I was sure she had won. Then I was informed by a fellow racer and new friend Mariana that it was me that had won. I was super stoked and happy that I was able to defend my title.
Pan Am Champs-Puebla Mexico-April 8th 2012 - Jacqueline Harmony
The overall trip was filled with so much excitement from the 4 hour wait at the airport, 3-4 hours of driving and getting lost, no bike shuttles, getting shuttles from the local Policia, hoping I had enough water, delicious Al Pastor tacos, awesome race course, probably the coolest US Gravity Team, standing on the top step of the podium and to top it all off food poisoning on the last night to a miserable day of flying home.
Thanks to all my teammates for the great times and help with everything!
Thanks to all my sponsors who help me out tremendously...
