Spring in the Poudre - Emily Dudley

Spring in the Poudre - Emily Dudley

This winter was weird in Colorado. There was not that much snow and the weather was pretty warm. I was able to climb in Poudre Canyon almost every weekend. After several failed trips trying Public Property in which I was doing the crux but simply letting go of the crimp I found I was “over it” for the time being. The first weekend in April the weather forecast looked good again. I had some friends in town that had never been to the Poudre. While giving a grand overview of the problems I realized I hadn’t done a lot of the moderates in the main area. This was an oversight I wanted to amend immediately. The first problem to do was the Puffing Stone_V5. It is on the boulder that the 420’s were named after. It’s a very fun problem with a lot of different beta. Instead of walking my feet to the left I was able to keep the heel hook. It made for a very fun warm-up for the rest of the day. I then did the Bisher Traverse_V7. This problem is super highball and scary… in reality, it’s about 6 inches off the ground. It’s the first problem that I have actually felt scrunched up on. I cannot imagine how anyone tall does this problem without butt-dragging or their elbows chicken winging like crazy. Bisher Traverse was good endurance training. At the end of the day we hiked over to Merlin_V7. This problem is great. I found alternative pogo jump beta which allowed me to avoid the heinous crimp.

Overall it was a great day checking off the classics. Thanks to the nice weather the Poudre season was long this year.
