I just got back from ABS youth nationals in Colorado springs, I had a blast at this comp. I placed 7th at the competition, this was a great improvement over my 17th place at ABS nationals last year but I’m not super happy with my result since I think I climbed pretty poorly in finals, but this is just more motivation to start training hard for the next comp. The format of the comp was a 4 problem qualifier on the first day and then a 3 problem semi -final and final on the second and third days. The comp was held in the Colorado Springs city auditorium on an awesome new wall built by Entre Prises. In the qualifier I flashed the first 3 problems and ended up falling off of problem #4 along with a bunch of other competitors, the scoring in qualifiers came down to falls on problem 4 for most of the competitors except for 3 who sent the problem. After qualifiers I was in 12th place.
The next day we had semifinals; in semifinals I surprised myself with a flash of the first problem since it was a very hard slab, and slab is one of my biggest weaknesses. On problem number 3 I got stuck on a big dyno at the beginning and then finally got it together and sent it on my 8th try with about half a second on the clock. After semifinals I moved up to 3rd place being one of 3 people to flash 2 of the problems. On Sunday in finals I started off getting worked on problem number one, a slabby and technical volume problem. Then I flashed problem #2 which ended with a really fun dyno from two terrible thumb underclings. Then on problem number 3 I got really worked the problem was my style, a powerful over hang problem but wasn’t able to stick one of the key holds.
After finals I ended up in 7th place, now I’m really excited to start training for SCS open nationals in April at Movement Climbing and Fitness in Boulder Colorado but right now I’m going to take about a week off as I strained my bicep pretty bad in semifinals. I’m also really excited for spring in Minnesota as its getting warmer and I’ll be able to climb outside a lot more. Congrats to Michael O’rourke for male junior national championship and Kyra Condie for winning female youth A. I've also included a picture from a trip I took to Arkansas in January, in the picture i'm on one inch pinch V12, which I didn't send but will be a good project for next time.
