Boulder City, NV
To start off my year of racing I headed out to the Nevada State Champs in Boulder City Nevada February 19th-20th. Practice and race days were an awesome mix of sunny, cloudy, windy and perfectly calm weather. I made sure I got in a sufficient amount of practice on both the DH and SD courses. I got all my lines down and stepped up a couple of new lines to make the ride just a little smoother. My Super D race did not turn out so well, just about 500 feet off the start my derailleur decided it wanted to visit my wheel and be eaten by it. I attempted to fix what I could and coast/run my way down with a considerable head wind. I decided to bow out and ended up with a 36 min Super D run for 2nd place. My DH run superseded my Super D run by quite a bit. I had so much fun racing the course with all the technical bits to the super high-speed sections. I tore down the racecourse with all my new off-season training strength and dominated the field. There were a couple of areas where I had to readjust myself after a bobble, however the run went as smooth as could be done on the mountain. I won the race with a time of 4:57, not too far off some pro men’s times.
Bootleg was filled with so many awesome people; Matt and the Go-Ride Crew, Ernest Vogel and the Cove Bikes Crew, Luke Hontz and the 5.10 Crew, Jeff Frampton and the All Mountain Cyclery Crew, Sean and the Canfield fleet, just to name a few. It was so great to see everyone come out to the event and partake in some of the best riding around. I love hanging out with the best people in the world.
