BASE Jumping in Paradise! - Suz Graham

January 10, 2012 -  Suz Graham

Last week I got to go to Thailand to film some BASE jumping in TonSai on the beach. This particular place is one of the most unique, picturesque jumps in the world. TonSai is a little village that is better known for it's world class climbing, attracting climbers from all over the world to come bask in the sun, hang from giant stalactites, eat cheap Masaman curry, climb to their hearts content, and run from the monkeys. For us, however, the real appeal for us was the big, overhanging cliff right above the beach with a sandy landing area next to a little beach bar. From start to finish this cliff is full on- the approach in itself is crazy, about 4 50 foot sections of vertical walls that we have to solo, complete with snakes and vines that look like snakes, ants, mosquitos, monkeys, and other jungle creatures that make weird noises. The rock is sharp and grippy, and the most beautiful view I've ever seen awaits you at the top. This is one of my favorite places in the entire world, a hidden little gem that is well worth the 2 full days of traveling to get there.

And not to mention, being on the beach in January is pretty dang awesome too- the snow situation in North America is pretty bleak, so I'm more than psyched to take off on some tropical BASE adventures! The hard part was coming home, but the fun continues and I have quite the line up coming up, so stay tuned. :)
