This past weekend was packed with climbing! I spent Thursday and Friday setting for the Spot Bouldering Series Comp #3. After forerunning on Friday, I jumped on a plane to Portland, Oregon to compete in the 1st Portland Boulder Rally at The Circuit Gym. Saturday morning arrived far too early and it took a lot of warming up and a bit of ibuprofen to shake off the soreness from the previous few setting days. For the red-point round, finishing 5 hard boulders and saving my skin and energy was the primary focus. I managed to finish 5 hard boulders and qualify in 1st place for finals, but my psych got the best of me during the round, and my skin and energy was totally wasted. A few hours of rest before finals only seemed to make the pain in my body and hands worse, but it was still hard to contain my psych for finals. After previewing the problems and seeing the large and excited crowd of spectators, all the pain slowly faded. Time to put on a show! The problems were amazing, all the finalists tried hard and put on a great show, and when the dust settled at the end of the comp, I'm happy to say that I came out in 1st Place! Huge congrats go to The Circuit Gym for putting on a highly entertaining and professional climbing event, and to all the climbers of Northwest who made the event an outstanding success. I can't wait for next year.
Also, a special thanks to the Surma family for hosting me for the weekend. Always a great time!
