What's the BEST freerunning and parkour shoe? - Matthew Barnes

November 25, 2011 -

Everyone seems to want the answer to the question, "What is the best freerunning and parkour shoe?" I've tried every freerunning shoe Five Ten has to offer and my answer has stayed the same...

"It depends on Your style."

Large impact, extreme precision, light weight or heavy duty, your perfect shoe depends on what you need out of it. Below, I will take time to review what I believe to be each Five Ten shoe's strength and the style that necessitates its use.

The Freerunner

The shoe that started my Five Ten addiction. This one is the most like your standard tennis shoe. If you have been training in tennies, love them, but are looking to make the switch to performance grade Stealth Rubber, this one is for you. The all black one is part off their latest release and is my favorite of the options...plus it will finish off that ninja costume you're been working on...

The Chase

This guy is maybe the most severely underestimated of the lot. While they are a bit heavier, these shoes are nearly indestructible...and, they aren't that heavy, so stop whining and train harder if the weight is an issue. If your training takes you to the great outdoors, this shoe can't be beat. These guys straight up saved my life in Red River Gorge, KY and I even wore them at my wedding!

The Daescent

SUPER lightweight and flexible. This is the shoe that best suits my style. Very thin, but completely sturdy, the Daescent fits your foot like a glove, allowing you to feel everything underneath your feet. This shoe does require you to have all of your moves down solid though as it offers little padding.

The Warhawk

Cousin to the Daescent, this shoe is slightly more padded and a bit more like a tennis shoe. It features the new MI6 rubber, their “stickiest” rubber yet! While it is not a night and day difference, they do offer a bit more traction on slick surfaces. I recommend this shoe to a lot of people starting out for its increased durability, performance shape, and the little extra padding it offers over the Daecent.

The Atlas

Red isn’t your thing? They come in blue now too! I wasn’t too sure about these when I first opened the box, but I’ve really been impressed. If high impact moves are your thing, these may just be the shoe for you. Quite sturdy and nicely supported, you could wear these all day. Traction is fantastic (even relative to Stealth standards) and I can’t believe how light they are!

Hey there! Your review was great, I'm looking for a shoe that has, great cushioning, great flexibility, feels like you're barefoot and can take a beating. Which one would you recommend for me? Thanks!
