Creativity Through Movement - Eric Joyal

Creativity Through Movement - Eric Joyal

October 14, 2011 -  Eric Joyal

Until now I had never considered myself a creative person but I realized today why.  Our society emphasizes creativity as something that’s in the arts not athletics.  I’ve always sucked at drawing, painting, writing, etc.  I didn’t care though; it just was the way it is I have a scientific and analytical mind.  However, I’ve been wrong sense I can remember thinking that back in elementary school.  My creativity is in my movement. I realized it today after a good session of training at the law school.  I’ve trained there probably near a hundred times.  Yet, every now and then when I’m there I’ll find a new movement or flow that I had never done before.  Today it was the addition of trying and succeeding at my first urban palmspin to handspring.  Just that opened up several new flows and paths through the terrain.  After training you realize you are creative even if you didn’t think so before.  You’ve broken some limit that was previously upon you and become a stronger person.  Just another reason I love moving, I love free running.
