Going back to the east coast is always a fun time for me. Since I grew up there I get a special feeling every time I’m back. This year’s Nor’easter was held in Burlington Vermont, which is one of my favorite cities. It’s a huge college town right next to Lake Champlain. In addition to being in a great location Burlington also has some great bars and restaurants. But I didn't travel all the way just to eat and drink. I went to climb.
This was my first year going to a Nor’easter event. I was very pleased with how everything went. The bouldering comp was great, not that i climbed well. I ended up in 14th place. Kind of a bummer but sometimes you “show up” and sometimes you don’t.
The first day of qualifiers went well. The weather was a bit steamy but ok. I had a great time on some great problems that day. The next day the weather took a turn for the worse. Semi-finals were canceled and a threat of finals being canceled as well. Then after some serious talk a new plan was formed. The finals were going to happen but now everyone from semis would be in the final round. We all met back up at 3pm and a funny thing started to happen. The sun came out!
The finals problems were very hard on me and I ended up not completing a signal one. I was very disappointed but that only lasted for a minute or so. With so many familiar faces and friends around its hard to stay bummed for long.
Later that night we all gathered around down town for a night out. which was extremely fun. Even though I didn’t have the best climbing days i still enjoyed myself very much and hope to go back next year.
