This trip to South Afrika was a bit like coming home, after spending many winters in the „early times“ of this great place. ( 2002-2006) In the last years Rocklands has become very popular and it got bigger every year, with many new sectors and boulders. The quiet times, or better said the „wild times“ of this place are definitely gone. The asphalt road is just one indicator.

With all those new problems and areas established in the last years, it was hard to get the focus. As always in rocklands I went back to some „old“ projects, which i already tried in 2006. There was still no chalk on the holds, so i was highly motivated to finish these old ideas.

By the end of the trip i put up a new great line, just right of the classic „Gliding through the waves like dolphins“. The new line is a powerful 14 move monster with a hard crux right at the start. Taller people can do this proble with 10 moves ...so it was hard to give this problem a proper grade.

I named it: „SITTING IN A CORNER WITH DEPRESSION“, another great line in the area with some really hard moves. Just the next day i spend another problem at ROADCREW. This is an untypical problem for sandstone bouldering. Slightly overhanging wall, with good crimps and powerful moves. It feels more like climbing on granite. This line is „THE HONEY BADGER“

The 3rd line i worked on, remains a project.
