Five Ten Team athlete Edyta Ropek, known for her successes in speed climbing world cups, unusually started this competition season. This year she tried her hand in Ice Climbing and Dry Tooling comps. Those were first steps for her, after one month of adventure with tools in the gym and in rock, she decided to learn more about that discipline, only way was to learn from the best. That is why she went to the Ice World Cup in Saas Fee (Swiss), to see what it looks like up close.

Her results weren’t so fascinating, but what was more important was that she got new experiences. For this competition, we’ve prepared for her a special combination of the Grandstone shoe together with Petzl Dart crampons. As You can see on the photo, they look nice. They also work well, especially on artificial walls. After comps she visited a closed quarry near where she lives to climb on the dry tooling lines.

This was only the beginning of Edyta’s competition season. The main target for 2011 is World Championships in the Italian Mecca of climbing – Arco, which will take place from 15 to 24 July. Edyta will fight in speed climbing competitions.

She also wants to fight in the 2011 world cup events. The calendar will start in April with Italian Milano comps, after that there is a traditional competition in French Chamonix (July), than we have championships, and two weeks later the most comprehensive comps in the season, on famous dam in Valle di Daone (Italy). Speed climbing season will finish during two events in China in September. Xining will host the world cup event this year, and for the first time athletes will meet to finish their struggles in Changzhi.

After that Edyta will start preparation for the Ice Climbing 2012 season.
