Positive Aspects of Climate Change – Bouldering in Zillertal - Tobias Haller

December 26, 2010 -  Tobias Haller

It’s December 23rd and we got about 10 degrees in Innsbruck/Austria. Usually this is the time when we either go skiing in deep powder or move ourselves to Ticino, Bleau, Bishop or Hueco to climb in good conditions. This year however we can go back to our projects in Zillertal and find them perfectly dry in windy conditions. About a week ago I fell off the very last move of Drischiebl (V12) and unfortunately couldn’t finish it that day due to wet top holds and a massive pump. You’ve probably seen the funny little video of this poor effort on vimeo (http://vimeo.com/17856501).

Anyways, I’m happy I could take the chance the weather granted me and finished the problem right before Christmas. Psyched! The problem doesn’t really fit my style (18 moves on some very small crimps) but I can honestly say that Drischibl definitely goes on the list of the top-10 boulders in Zillertal and whenever you get there, make sure you check it out!! Check out the video of the ascent: http://vimeo.com/18177309 and these nice photos taken by Emi Moosburger (emi-moosburger.blogspot.com).

Happy new years to all - I'm off to Switzerland ...
