For two whole weeks there will be exactly one year after the injury of breaking and reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament in my right knee. Extremely demanding year. Year of hard work, incredible dedication, determination and enormous will to fight for a return to the sport, to climbing.
Most of my trip to Mexico has been spent climbing in Guadalcazar, Mexico. This place has captured my heart and has been an area where I pushed myself the hardest. There are so many great memories from every aspect of living in this little town. It feels very strange to leave after being so comfortable in one place. I have learned so much about myself through this part of my trip and several projects have forced me to really evaluate myself as a person and push myself to success.
The last two months have slipped past incredibly quickly... I have been enjoying having a house and the structure of a training program for a bit. It is amazingly nice to add a touch of routine to my otherwise transient and unpredictable life. Winter in the desert has been amazing this year, with beautiful sun-filled days and perfect temperatures for climbing in the sun. A nice change from hiding in the shade, as we climbers generally do to get good conditions for most of the year.
I am exactly one month before the start of the world cup series in speed climbing. I’m finishing phase of the toughest workouts, already thinking about the first starts. The winter time I worked very well, rebuilding muscle mass in the injured leg, so that I could return to normal training.
Growing up to pass time at the hockey rink while Charlie played, I could be found up in the rafters. I would climb the scaffolding, and when my parents went to look for me, they just had to look up. Well, Red Bull and I chose to take this scaffolding idea to a bigger arena: Quite literally. Red Bull owns The New York Red Bulls and the old Giant’s Stadium in Harrison, NJ, just outside of NYC.
