Since the age of 7, Armen has been a very passionate cyclist. He was born March 14, 1999 (in Boulder, CO), and entered the downhill mountain biking scene at the age of 8, just a year after he learned how to ride a bike. Soon after that, he recognized downhill mountain biking as the sport he wanted to pursue and in which to excel. He started racing at the age of 11, and aspires to someday race the UCI World Cup and World Championships. Riding is in his genes. Both parents raced road bikes. Armen’s mom, Bunki Bankaitis-Davis, raced professionally; she is a former Olympian (Road Race, 1988 Seoul, Korea) and World Champion (Team Time Trial, 1992, Benidorm Spain). His parents have always supported his passion for downhill mountain biking as well as a variety of other cycling disciplines, including cross-country, trials and dirt jumping – all of which have become family activities. When Armen is off the bike, he is an avid downhill skier. He has been on skis since he was 2 years old. When he can’t ride his bike, he defaults to snow in order to work on his reflexes, jumps and downhill flow. Armen is the 2011 11-12 year old National Champion, the 2012 Colorado State Champion, and the 2012 Mountain States Cup overall Champion.
