The most influential South African boulderer of his generation, Marijus Šmigelskis has contributed hundreds of new problems and opened many new areas in Cape Town putting it squarely on the global bouldering map.
Marijus got into climbing in high school after fashioning some home-made gear “borrowing” a swimming pool lane marker from the school pool to use as a rope. After a shift from trad to sport he quickly repeated most of the hard routes around Cape Town, before turning his focus mainly to bouldering.
Today, Marijus spends most of his time scouting and developing new areas around South Africa as well as repeating established test-pieces at the world-famous boulders of Rocklands
